Fountain Hill Council met Nov. 23, and missing were Mayor Jose Rosado and solicitor Peter Lehr.
The first reading of Ordinance 830 took place. It established the real estate and other taxation for borough purposes for the fiscal year 2017. The taxes will remain the same as last year. The motion was made and secondedand passed unanimously. A copy of Ordinance 830 can be seen at the Fountain Hill Borough office.
The announcement that there will be no tax increase for 2017 for the Borough of Fountain Hill, was met with resounding applause at council’s Nov. 7 meeting. The original proposal was to raise taxes, but the council was able to take $50,000 out of the fund balance to cover the cost. The library tax rate also did not go up.
The council meeting was called to order Oct. 3 and the only council member not present was Helen Halleman. The minutes from Aug. 24 and Sept. 6 were approved.
Fountain Hill Council has hired another part-time police officer. Richmon Penn was sworn in Sept. 6. The council has created a Safety Committee to meet once a month to discuss proper safety procedures for employees. They will meet the last Monday of each month. The members of this committee are Edward Bachert, David Wood, Dave Boeher, Thomas Hart, Jason Quarry, Brian Morea, Anthony Branco. This will give the borough employees a 5 percent reduction in insurance.
The council has a busy workload ahead of them. They will be updating the fire code, the rental ordinance and looking to redo the Fountain Hill borough website. The meeting from Aug. 24 got off to a smooth start, with council approving the minutes from the June 22 and July 5 meetings.
The Copper Cowgirl galloped her way into Musikfest this year as your friendly living statue from the Old West. This was the first year she performed at Musikfest and in the United States.
The Copper Cowgirl is one of the many Buskers, street performers, appearing throughout Musikfest. The Copper Cowgirl was at Musikfest from Aug. 5 through 9. She was born in South Africa, but currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and her real name is Claire Bezuidenhout. She has been performing for nine years and says she loves making people laugh and catching them off guard.
Fountain Hill has a new full-time police officer. Part-time Officer Eric Tosado was sworn in to a full-time position at Fountain Hill Council’s July 20 worshop session.
Council voted unanimously to hire Tosado who was the top candidate after completing the civil service test. He has been employed as a borough officer part-time for several months. Mayor Jose Rosado swore in Officer Eric Tosado as a full-time officer of Fountain Hill Borough Police Department.
In other business, council approved the Fountain Hill Stickball Classic for Saturday, Aug. 6.
