ALLENTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDATION The next training session for the volunteer reading program is scheduled for Thursday, April 30, from 1:30-2:30PM at Jackson Elementary Childhood Center located at 517 N 15th Street, Allentown. Parking is on the street. Background clearances are required to volunteer in the schools and directions to obtain them will be distributed. PENN STATE Watershed applications being accepted

Lehigh Valley residents that want to learn more about the environment and get involved in local efforts to protect water can look to the Penn State Extension Master Watershed Steward Program.

The 2020 Master Watershed Steward training program for Lehigh and Northampton classes starts March 11 and continues through mid-June on Wednesdays from 6-8:30 p.m.

BLACK HISTORY Slide lecture set for March 21

A slide lecture about “The History of African- Americans in the Lehigh Valley” by Fred Montgomery will be held at 1 p.m. on March 21 at the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum, 432 W. Walnut St., Allentown. The educator and lecturer will discuss educational and cultural contributions local African Americans have made, as well as the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.

Held in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley Black African History Project Exhibit, the event is free for members; there is a cost for non-members.

McCracken new GM

Kathy McCracken has been named executive vice president and general manager of PCI Gaming Authority d/b/a Wind Creek Hospitality (Wind Creek) Bethlehem. She is succeeding Brian Carr, who is leaving the organization.

Moravian professor’s book launch March 17

There will be a book launch for Moravian Professor Joyce Hinnefeld’s short story collection, The Beauty of Their Youth, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 17 in the Cohen Room, Bethlehem Area Public Library, 11 W. Church St.
