Police arrested two men for fighting over $20 on Mechanic Street around 2 a.m. Aug. 1.

According to police, one Pablo Hidalgo arrived in the 1000 block to confront 49-year-old Samuel Hernandez about the money and they began to fight in the street.

Hidalgo was struck several times with a curtain rod and golf club, and Hernandez is charged with simple assault.

An Evening of Excellence on Ice was held by the Lehigh Valley Charter HS for the Performing Arts May 24. Hosted by Michael Aruanno with musical direction by Frank Dibussolo, the presentation made for an inspiring evening.

Coached by Suzzannah Nolt, Kris Shakarjian and Valerie Nauroth, the students showed off their twirls, jumps and spins, which kept the audience's rapt attention throughout the evening.

The inaugural Southside Bethlehem bike show will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Aug. 18 along Third, Fourth and New streets.

The event, for Harleys, cruisers, classics and sports bikes, is presented by the Downtown Bethlehem Association SouthSide Arts District merchants. There will be prizes, a chili pepper eating contest, live entertainment, a poker walk and more.

Robber caught

Police arrested a 24-year-old man during an investigation and search following an armed robbery of a Linden Street gas station.

Around 1:50 p.m. Aug. 5, a pistol-wielding man with a purple cloth covering his face robbed the Express Gas and Food Mart and fled in a green Volvo.

The following day city and Allentown police followed tips to Andrew Bilheimer of Baeufort Drive, who was discovered in the Redner's Market parking lot on Airport Road.

Improvement plans LANTA seeks public input

The Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANTA) held a series of open houses Aug. 1 and 2 to get public input on a number of enhancements being considered to make the local transportation system faster, more reliable and more efficient. Planning Director Owen O'Neil said that after a two-year study LANTA has created priority routes where it wants to focus improvements.
