Lehigh County detectives arrested two local residents believed to be prosecuting a long-distance telephone scam Nov. 20.

Angela Guzman, 38, and Narciso Burgos-Nunez, 45, both of Cherokee Street, were charged following an investigation instigated by the would-be victim, a man in Alabama suspicious of calls informing him his grandson was being held for bail in Lehigh County.

A man wanted for the armed robbery of a local bank this summer was found dead following a standoff with police Nov. 21.

According to a statement by Police Chief Mark DiLuzio, uniformed officers, assisting detectives, went to 416 Hickory St., where the man was observed, and attempted to make contact. He came to the door, displayed and brandished a firearm, and refused to come out of the residence. Officers spoke with the man and three juveniles were able to leave the house.

Police arrested 35-year-old Kevin Morales, of West Tilghman Street in Allentown, for alleged intoxication and drug possession in public around 4:25 p.m. Nov. 13.

Police did not specify how they encountered Morales, but the arrest took place at Broad and Guetter streets, and he is charged with public drunkenness and possession of a controlled substance (heroin) and paraphernalia.

Police arrested a man for allegedly striking a car with a crowbar around 6:45 p.m. Nov. 14.

Ezekiel Martinez, 25, of Elm Street, broke a window, police said, and injured a person.

He is charged with endangerment, criminal mischief, prohibited weapons, and simple and aggravated assault.

Two persons charged with animal cruelty and neglect

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced Nov. 2 two persons have been charged with animal cruelty and neglect.

Melanie Rehrig, 33 and Jason Wieder, 39, both of the 900 block of Hillcrest Drive South, Macungie, are both charged with five counts of alleged aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony of the third degree; six counts of cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor of the second degree; six counts of neglect of animals, a misdemeanor of the third degree and 86 counts of neglect of animals, a summary offense, according to a media release from the district attorney’s office.

A 28-year-old woman allegedly entered the East Morton Street Pantry One Oct. 14 and attacked someone with a knife.

Police said around 4:40 a.m. LisMarie Diaz-Rodriguez, of Evans Street, began throwing food items and then slashed another person with a knife, causing a minor injury.

Diaz-Rodriguez is charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and aggravated assault.
