Pate cheerleaders take first

Freedom High School's competition cheerleading squad ended its season with a bang at the AmeriCheer Internationals on March 16-17 in Disneyworld, winning first place in the Level 4 All-Star Division and winning second place in the High School Division.

The Patriots competed in each division twice, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. Lower scores were thrown out in order to establish the winners.

Bethlehem Catholic tennis players Kevin Hamilton and Stephen Rossi defeated Allentown Central Catholic and Moravian Academy before losing to Notre Dame Green Pond in the District XI Doubles Tennis Tournament quarterfinals last weekend.

In the first round, the Hawks defeated Mike Gordon and Shawn Regan, 6-2, 6-1.

Carpenter Cup baseball tryouts to take place

It's almost summer and that means Carpenter Cup action is just around the corner. The Lehigh Valley team held their first of three tryouts on Sunday, May 5 at DeSales.

Two other tryouts will take place on Sunday, May 12 and May 19. All sessions are slated for 9 am.

The Carpenter Cup is one of the nation's premier scholastic tournaments that takes place at Ashburn Field at FDR Park and Citizens Bank Park.

Becahi falls in season final

In its final dual track and field meets of the regular season, Bethlehem Catholic fell to Easton, 99-41, boys, and 87-54, girls, while the boys also lost to Nazareth, 100-50, and the girls defeated Nazareth, 78-71.

Liberty's girls track and field team defeated archrival Freedom 90-60 last week.

The Hurricanes swept the sprinting events while the Patriots swept distance.

Maceo Connor may not have been the most dominating, or stat driven guard in the Lehigh Valley Conference last season, but Connor certainly was the most positive teammate.

Where there's smoke, there's fire and the news of a Lehigh Valley superconference finally came to fruition last week.

After months of rumors and speculation about the future of the Lehigh Valley Conference, the Mountain Valley Conference stepped in and sent out an invitation to 12 neighboring schools to ultimately form a "big school, super conference," according to Stroudsburg Principal and MVC President Jeff Sodl.

It continues to be a season of highlights for Liberty's volleyball team, as the Hurricanes added another feather in their cap following a victory over Emmaus last week.
