Emmaus HS group wins 'Bach-Appella'

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem has announced the results of its "Bach-Appella Competition" in conjunction with the Bach Choir's presentation of The Swingle Singers in a Gala Concert-Fundraiser, 8 p.m. Oct. 6, Zoellner Arts Center.

The winning group is Emmaus High School's Fermata Nowhere, directed by Rita Cortez. The group will sing Van Morrison's "Moondance" during the second half of the Swingle Singers' concert.

Planet Trog lands No Bragging Rights

No Bragging Rights, a melodic, hardcore punk band that espouses Christian-like morals and ideals, performs at 6 p.m. Oct. 5, Planet Trog, 3570 MacArthur Road, Whitehall.

"All songs are positive," says Mike Perez, lead singer and founder of the band.

Perez founded the band in Riverside, Calif., in 1999 when he was 15-years-old.

The band includes Perez, vocals; Christian Lee, guitar; Daniel Garrow, guitar; Ryan Warrell, bass; and Martin Alcedo, drums.

Auditions set for 'Carol'

Auditions for Civic Theatre of Allentown's 2012 production of "A Christmas Carol" are Oct. 15 and 16 in the rehearsal hall, 19th Street Theatre, 527 N. 19th St., Allentown.

Auditions are 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 for ages 6-15, and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 for 16 and older. All roles are open. A teenager who wants to audition for the role of an adult should attend the adult audition.

AAM 'Black & White' party previews Kline, Evans exhibitions

The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley launches its fall lineup of exhibitions and events in its upstairs galleries with a "Black & White Preview Party," 6 - 8 p.m. Oct. 6.

The exhibits, opening Oct. 7, represent strong connections to eastern Pennsylvania.

Internationally-known Abstract Expressionist Franz Kline grew up in Lehighton, 25 miles north of Allentown. The exhibit, "Franz Kline: Coal and Steel," in the Scheller Gallery, emphasizes how the area's coal mines and railroads influenced his artistic vision.

Meeting for 7th Student Horror Film Fest

Student filmmakers are invited to participate in the Emmaus Arts Commission's 7th Annual Student Horror Film Festival.

Interested students may attend the kick-off meeting, a free, "how-to" class, 6 p.m. Oct. 11, Emmaus High School.

Students in middle school and high school from around the country are eligible to participate in the annual festival.

During the kick-off event, participants are provided filmmaking tips and techniques and given theme and genre for their film.

Swingle again for Bach Choir

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem will present "Let's Swingle" as its fifth gala concert and fundraiser featuring The Swingle Singers, 8 p.m. Oct. 6, Baker Hall, Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem.

Runners-up in the "Bach-appella Competition" for high school and college a cappella ensembles give a pre-concert performance at 7:40 p.m. The winning ensemble performs as part of the Swingle Singers' concert.

Fishtank Ensemble: World music in one
